Happy Father’s Day!
By Angela Willingham

I did not grow up with a father in the house and I know I am not alone. For whatever reason many of us found ourselves in homes being raised by women. Fathers were absent because of death or by choice. Whatever the reason we want to take this opportunity to say Happy Father’s Day to those men that are taking care of their responsibilities. To those who have not we want to encourage you to turn this thing around. You may not be able to be a father any more but maybe you can with the help of God find a way to be part of the lives of your children whether they are children, teenagers or adults. This is a time of restoration and reconciliation and we want to encourage you to take advantage of it and take your families back.

In 1 Samuel 30 the bible talks about how the Amalekites came and raided Ziklag, while David and the mighty men of valor were out doing the work of the Lord. During the raid their wives and children were taken captive. David consulted the Lord and the Lord instructed him to go after his family and he did and everything was restored to him with even more. I don’t know what your situation is, but if you need something restored consult the Lord and ask Him what He wants you to do. Remember that just like God gave David the strength he needed He can also give you the strength you need. Don’t give up and don’t let fear cause you to back away from what God has told you to do.

(Watch for the upcoming Real Men Series with Brian Willingham-Angela’s new brother from Facebook.)

Scripture:

1 Samuel 30
David's Strength Was in His God
1 -3 Three days later, David and his men arrived back in Ziklag. Amalekites had raided the Negev and Ziklag. They tore Ziklag to pieces and then burned it down. They captured all the women, young and old. They didn't kill anyone, but drove them like a herd of cattle. By the time David and his men entered the village, it had been burned to the ground, and their wives, sons, and daughters all taken prisoner.

4 -6 David and his men burst out in loud wails—wept and wept until they were exhausted with weeping. David's two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail widow of Nabal of Carmel, had been taken prisoner along with the rest. And suddenly David was in even worse trouble. There was talk among the men, bitter over the loss of their families, of stoning him.

6 -7 David strengthened himself with trust in his God. He ordered Abiathar the priest, son of Ahimelech, "Bring me the Ephod so I can consult God." Abiathar brought it to David.

8 Then David prayed to God, "Shall I go after these raiders? Can I catch them?" The answer came, "Go after them! Yes, you'll catch them! Yes, you'll make the rescue!"

9 -10 David went, he and the six hundred men with him. They arrived at the Brook Besor, where some of them dropped out. David and four hundred men kept up the pursuit, but two hundred of them were too fatigued to cross the Brook Besor, and stayed there.

11 -12 Some who went on came across an Egyptian in a field and took him to David. They gave him bread and he ate. And he drank some water. They gave him a piece of fig cake and a couple of raisin muffins. Life began to revive in him. He hadn't eaten or drunk a thing for three days and nights!

13 -14 David said to him, "Who do you belong to? Where are you from?"
"I'm an Egyptian slave of an Amalekite," he said. "My master walked off and left me when I got sick—that was three days ago. We had raided the Negev of the Kerethites, of Judah, and of Caleb. Ziklag we burned."
15 David asked him, "Can you take us to the raiders?" "Promise me by God," he said, "that you won't kill me or turn me over to my old master, and I'll take you straight to the raiders."

16 He led David to them. They were scattered all over the place, eating and drinking, gorging themselves on all the loot they had plundered from Philistia and Judah.

17 -20 David pounced. He fought them from before sunrise until evening of the next day. None got away except for four hundred of the younger men who escaped by riding off on camels. David rescued everything the Amalekites had taken. And he rescued his two wives! Nothing and no one was missing—young or old, son or daughter, plunder or whatever. David recovered the whole lot. He herded the sheep and cattle before them, and they all shouted, "David's plunder!"

21 Then David came to the two hundred who had been too tired to continue with him and had dropped out at the Brook Besor. They came out to welcome David and his band. As he came near he called out, "Success!"

22 But all the mean-spirited men who had marched with David, the rabble element, objected: "They didn't help in the rescue; they don't get any of the plunder we recovered. Each man can have his wife and children, but that's it. Take them and go!"

23 -25 "Families don't do this sort of thing! Oh no, my brothers!" said David as he broke up the argument. "You can't act this way with what God gave us! God kept us safe. He handed over the raiders who attacked us. Who would ever listen to this kind of talk? The share of the one who stays with the gear is the share of the one who fights—equal shares. Share and share alike!" From that day on, David made that the rule in Israel—and it still is.

26 -31 On returning to Ziklag, David sent portions of the plunder to the elders of Judah, his neighbors, with a note saying, "A gift from the plunder of God's enemies!" He sent them to the elders in Bethel, Ramoth Negev, Jattir, Aroer, Siphmoth, Eshtemoa, Racal, Jerahmeelite cities, Kenite cities, Hormah, Bor Ashan, Athach, and Hebron, along with a number of other places David and his men went to from time to time.

 Encouragement From Queen-

TO THE MOTHER THAT PLAYS THE FATHER ROLE
By Queen Lacey

To the mother who plays the father role too
This is a Happy Father’s Day to you

Not missing a beat doing what you need to do
It is only in number that parents aren’t two

You have to trust in the Lord and never doubt
God always provides and no one will do without

Sometimes you may question - am I doing all I can do
Yes, the evidence shows every time that child says I love you

You have done a great job and you are doing still today
Being a mother doesn’t stop even when the child grows up and moves away

May you know that you are far more worth your weight in gold
So enjoy this Father’s Day; mother that plays that role

 Monthly Fitness Tip-

Load up on fiber. High fiber foods like whole grains and beans absorb water in your stomach, making you feel full faster and satisfied longer. Black bean and lentil soups are good choices, as are steel-cut oats and whole wheat cereals. Check out the high fiber breads, bagels and English muffins that are now available in many grocery stores and even the sandwich thins that are a smaller (lower calorie) version of a bun and also higher in fiber.

As always we encourage you to see a physician before beginning any exercise program. Take the first step by getting up and doing something to take care of your most valuable resource, Your Health.

017 What is your reason for exercise?
www.justlikemefitness.com
Your Fitness Angel
The Top 7 Reasons to Exercise
Summer has arrived and along with it the dreaded bathing suit season, well it is not dreaded for my clients, because they have been working to get in shape.

Whether you can't wait to bare it all on the beach, or if you're still working toward a weight loss goal, exercise is the key to looking and feeling great in summer months.

But why else should you exercise? Here are the top 7 reasons to exercise this summer:

Reason #1: To Melt Fat Away

The most coveted side effect of exercise is, of course, fat burn. The combination of a challenging exercise routine and a balanced meal plan is the best known way to lose fat. Here's what losing fat feels like:

  • Your pants become loose. This is the one that most of my clients rave about. They are more excited about the measurements than the scale for this very reason.?
  • People around you begin to say that you look great (You know you like this one.)
  • A glance at yourself in the mirror makes you smile
  • Your energy levels soar
  • You feel amazing

Reason #2: To Alleviate Pain

Regular exercise is a great way to alleviate chronic muscle and joint pain. Persistent back pain can be lessened by strengthening your core, and you’ll protect yourself against injury. It amazes people when the chronic pain that they’ve lived with for years begins to fade after starting a regular exercise program. Those muscles and joints you allowed to just sit there are now working on your behalf.

Reason #3: To Increase Lean Tissue

More muscle is good for many reasons. You see, muscle requires many more calories each day than fatty tissue. In fact, one pound of muscle burns 30-50 calories each day at rest - compared to a measly 9 calories per pound of fat.

When you exercise your body composition will change to contain more lean tissue, thus resulting in extra calories burned while you sleep. What could be better than that?

Reason #4: Do It For Yourself-To Stay Young

Doing it for yourself is the best reason. Working our regularly will make you feel and look years younger. One of the members of my boot camp will be turning 50 this year and over and over and over again she tells us that it is her plan to walk into it gracefully. She is going to be slamming. How is she going to do it-by eating right and exercise. Doing it for yourself will:

  • Cause you to look years younger. You have met the parents that get confused for their son or daughters, brother or sister instead of mom or dad (look at your Fitness Angel-LOL)
  • Reduce body fat
  • Increase energy
  • Increase mental clarity

Reason #5: To Prevent or Control Type 2 Diabetes

Regular exercise helps to stabilize blood sugar levels. This is something that people with type 2 diabetes, or at risk for type 2 diabetes, gain substantial benefits from.

Exercise improves the body's use of insulin, and the related weight loss improves insulin sensitivity. Of course patients with type 2 diabetes need to get guidelines from their doctor before starting an exercise program.

What Have You Been Reading?
Note: If you have visited our website recently and tried to find what have you been reading topic on our message board you will find it is gone. Please accept our apologies as it was inadvertently deleted. We realize this was one of our most viewed topics and we are extremely sorry. We will be unable to restore it as our back up system would cause the entire site to go back several months. Please check our previous newsletters to find some of the books we have recommended. Again please accept our apologies for the deletion.

Minister Angela just read, Act Like A Lady-Think Like A Man by Steve Harvey

She heard about the book, picked it up a few times at Walmart, but never bought it because she thought, I already know and God has me on this relationship thing. Finally, one day she was in Walmart again and decided to go ahead and read it to find out what all the hoopla was about. She had heard from several women, how insightful the book was, but she kept passing it by.

The book was a confirmation of some things that her friend The Fitness Angel had been telling her about relationships and the truth is she had not heard him. She learned some very basic principles that many of you probably already knew:

  • Men really don’t want to hear everything that we as women have to say. We need to learn to give them the abbreviated version and save the full discuss for our girlfriends. You already knew that right so why are we still trying to make them listen to the whole story?
  • Men are fixers. When you bring them a problem or concern their goal is to fix it, they don’t talk just to hear themselves talking. Again, if that is what you want to do, talk to one of your girlfriends.
  • There is no reason for a man to set a date to get married if you are already living together. If he gave you a ring and you are already living together................why does he need to set a date? He will be comfortable with things the way they are.

The book is not based on biblical principles so don’t get it twisted. However it does help you to understand how some men think and respond and may help you to make some better decisions and choices, but make sure that your decisions and choices have a biblical basis.

Many of you have read some awesome books that have really ministered to you, spiritually, emotionally, relationally or physically. Let us know what you have been reading by writing to us on the message board. Your recommendations might help someone else. Please let us know if you have read some good Christian fiction as well. Many of those books have awesome messages contained within them and we want to encourage people to grow spiritually any way they can.
