What Do You Do, When You Don't Know What To Do?

Have you ever been in a place where it seemed like things were finally starting to go in the right direction? You could actually see light at the end of the tunnel? Things did not seem as bleak as they once had?

Maybe you haven’t but God knows that I have. I have been in a place where things were going sadly in the opposite direction from what God had shown me and then it looked like it was turning around. I found myself getting excited and bang the door seemed to close.

What do you do when that happens? Do you question? Is it possible that was never your door in the first place? Is it possible you were going in the wrong direction the entire time? Right before everything appeared to turn around on me I read this message:

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND by Marsha Burns -- August 23, 2010:
The enemy has launched an attack against you, God's people, to bring fear that you've come this far and you have missed it somehow — that what you have done or what you thought was really important, all the energy and strength you've put into where you are right now was all for nothing. He wants you to believe that you've wasted your time and it hasn't been worth anything.

The devil is a liar! I believe God is saying: I see your every move and I know everything about you and you have not wasted one moment. You have not spilled one drop. Do not let the enemy bring condemnation and lies against you. Fear brings disability. And, the enemy wants to disable you from doing what you have been called to do. Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

I know God loves me and I also know that He loves me so much that He sent me a warning before He allowed the situation to occur. Remember that the enemy can do nothing except that which God allows him to do. He has no power in my life accept that which I give him. So things don’t look the way that I thought they would, does that rule out God’s purpose for my life? Am I involved in a situation that only God can handle and He just wants me to give it back to Him?

I thought I was doing what He wanted me to do. The enemy wants me to think I failed, I messed up, I am out of the will of God, but the truth is that I am very much in the will of God. Everything that has happened in my life has a purpose. Everything that has happened will be worked out for my good says Romans 8:28. I have to go through it so that I can help someone else to walk through it. So that I can give them some hope that their situation is not one that God cannot overcome.

It was prophetically spoken over my life in December of 2009, that I would minister what I have gone through, not what I have read about. What am I learning from this situation?

  1. This is a spiritual battle and it cannot be fought in the flesh. It has to be fought on our knees and from a place of extreme obedience.
  2. We can’t do it. If God does not do it, it cannot be done.
  3. We will see peeks and glimpses of light that look like we are coming out on the other side, but we cannot stop there we will have to press through like a woman giving birth in the last stages of delivery. When the doctor sees the head the woman still has to finish pushing the baby out. The head might go back inside because just like us, even a baby is more comfortable with that which is familiar.
  4. Just because the situation seems to go in reverse, like a baby pulling his/her head back in the birthing canal, we cannot give up. If we don’t finish pushing the baby out it will die. If we don’t finish the process the thing that God gave us will die. You have to finish in prayer on your knees. Trusting and believing that it is already done, but you still have to finish in the labor and delivery room.

What do you do, when you don’t know what to do?Go back to the last thing that God told you and stand there until He gives you further direction. Isaiah 30:21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.

Don’t move until you get clear direction from God. The enemy wants you to abort in the middle of childbirth, but God wants you to continue, to finish the assignment and to come through it a new creature. God wants you to come through it stronger, wiser, better than you were before, but you get to choose what you will do when you don’t know what to do.

My choice is to stay with the last thing God told me. To hold on to His hand and allow Him to tell me which way to go. No it does not make any sense at all, but it is what will build my character and my faith. When I don’t know what to do I have to trust that He is in control of everything. The truth in my story is that before I got hit, by the roller coaster ride again, God had already spoken to my spirit. I did not know what was coming and was a little surprised by the reversal.

Honestly, I can’t eve be mad because He did warn me and He did tell me what to do like He has so many times in the past. All I had to do was walk in it. I should say all I have to do is walk in it, because I am not out of it yet. Easy? No, but faith building, Yes!
